Vienna Valentine 10th Edition - New Sports & Record Numbers

The 10th edition of the Vienna Valentine Tournament brought more action than ever, featuring new sports and smashing another participation record! From 14 to 16 February 2025, the tournament—jointly organised by Aufschlag Wien and Kraulquappen Wien—delivered top-tier competition and unforgettable moments.
For the first time, Aufschlag Wien expanded beyond volleyball, adding badminton and basketball to the mix, making it a four-sport event. As always, Kraulquappen Wien took charge of the swimming competitions.
First Premiere: Badminton
For the first time at a VIVA tournament, Aufschlag was delighted to host a badminton competition. A total of 30 athletes from 12 countries—including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, India, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, and Spain—participated in the doubles tournament, which was held across three levels: A/B+, C+, and C-. Additionally, 14 players opted to compete in spontaneously organised singles matches.
In the doubles competition, Rahul & Arockia Michael (IND) emerged victorious in a fiercely contested A/B+ level. Adrianne (PHI) and Simson (BEL) claimed the top spot in C+, while Patryk & Marcin (POL) secured gold in C-.
In the singles matches, Nikolay (BUL) took first place in the A/B+ level, while Magdalena (AUT) and Nikko (DEN) won gold in the C category for female- and male-identified athletes, respectively.

Second Premiere: Basketball
Another exciting addition to VIVA10 was 3x3 basketball. Three teams from the Aufschlag basketball section were formed collaboratively to ensure fair competition within our FLINTA* space.
The friendly tournament, featuring six matches, turned into a thrilling contest, with the winning team securing victory by scoring a total of 26 points—closely followed by the runners-up with 25 and 23 points.
With all competitors proudly receiving their well-deserved medals, we eagerly look forward to the next basketball tournament!
Volleyball: A Record-Breaking Battle
This year’s volleyball showdown saw an all-time high of 22 teams battling it out, with teams from Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and of course, Austria. Held at the Universitätssportzentrum Schmelz, matches took place on four courts across three competition levels: A/B, C, and D.
- In Level D, 12 teams fought for glory, including two squads from our friends of Vienna’s Queer Melange. In the end, "Kiss My Ace" from Bratislava spiked their way to victory.
- In Level C, the Vienna Unicorns proved unstoppable, securing the top spot.
- At the highest level (A/B), "Love Balls"—featuring players mostly from Germany—claimed the 1st place crystal medals.
Epic Off-Court Moments
The tournament wasn’t just about competition—it was about fun, friendship, and unforgettable nights! On the eve of the competition, the Karaoke Night at Badeschiff, a unique venue on the Danube Canal, was a total hit, warming up the crowd before the big games. And after all the sweat and adrenaline on the courts, players and fans hit the Camera Club for the official afterparty—where the energy on the dance floor matched the intensity of the tournament.
Thank you so much to all participants and to Kraulquappen Wien for the perfect cooperation!
