More than 330 athletes at Vienna Valentine⁸

According to the motto “Break ice. Break records!”, the eight edition of the Vienna Valentine tournament took place on the weekend from 15 to 17 February 2019. More than 330 athletes from 15 countries took part in VIVA⁸ Austria’s largest international sports event for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people offered swimming and volleyball competitions.

The swimming tournament was organized by SC Diana/Kraulquappen. In total, more than 210 swimmers, many of them from abroad, participated in the competitions. For more information and the results: https://viva.kraulquappen.at/index.php/en/about-viva/results.html.

The volleyball tournament, hosted by Sportverein Aufschlag Wien, attracted more than 120 competitors and was carried out in three categories: B+, B-, and C. In sum, 18 teams – a record number – from Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and United Kingdom competed for the crystal medals. The team “Pit Crew” from London made the first place in level B+, the “Fireflies” from Ljubljana won in B-, and “Royal Unicorns” from Vienna were the best in level C.

After an intensive sports day, athletes, supporters, and friends celebrated together at “Porntrash” at Club Alice, one of the hippest party locations in Vienna.

It was definitely a very hot day (approx. 35° C), and a day with many matches for every team that competed. On 26^th August, the Vienna Beach Trophy 2017, one of the largest LGBTIQ beach volleyball tournaments in Europe, took place on seven courts in Vienna. Despite the heat, the 25 teams in four different levels fought hard for each and every point. There was time to relax immediately after the tournament at a barbecue. A great tournament day ended with the Vienna Beach Trophy Closing Party that was held at “Why Not”.

In almost all levels, teams from Prague performed particularly well. In A, the highest level, team „Winnie the Pooh“ (Michal and Radim, both Czech Republic) beat the Austro-German team „Oops we hit it again“ (Manuel and Stefan). In B+, all three medal ranks were dominated by teams from Czech Republic, „Danny and Mike“ (Daniel and Michal) made the gold medal. In B-, „The Fattiest“ (Petr/Czech Republic and The Tuan, Vietnam) were also the best. In C, the team “How I Set Your Mother” (Tom and Nghia, both from Germany) made the first place.

The VBT 2018 will take place on 25 August 2018. See you there!

Our famous Central Europe Beach Volleyball Tournament, the Vienna Beach Trophy, will take place from August 25 to 27, playing on Saturday 26.

The Vienna Beach Trophy has become the biggest gay and lesbian tournament in Europe played by beach rules. A team is two persons.

Play will be on up to eleven beach volleyball courts at Beachvolleyballzentrum Schmelz.
